🤖 Android Emoji Support
Android supported emoji in version 4.1 and above with Android 4.4 KitKat or above required to display color emoji.
Android 4.3 Jelly Bean was the first release to include a built-in keyboard (iWnn IME), and Android 4.4 KitKat was the first to include a color emoji keyboard.
Versions of Android prior to 4.3 require the use of a third-party keyboard app to insert emoji.
Android 4.4 KitKat includes full color emoji support - and emoji built into the standard keyboard.
Note: the steps below are for the stock keyboard provided by Google for the Nexus line.
1. When the standard keyboard is showing, tap the smiley/emoji button in the bottom-right to enable the emoji keyboard
2. Tap any emoji to insert
3. To see more emoji characters, scroll horizontally, or tap a different category header across the top of the keyboard
4. To return to the regular keyboard, tap the keyboard button
5. That’s it! Enjoy your emoji.
